Destiny does not cause accidents but decisions do!

Last week, a championship body boarder David Lilienfeld was tragically killed by a Great White Shark in Kogel Bay near Cape Town after body boarding with his brother and friends.

Many people started pointing out that, researchers and documentary filmmakers who were working in the area earlier in the week as well as the method of their research are chumming.

“Why does a kid have to die before we start talking about the negative effects of chumming the coastline?? Pisses me off!!” wrote Karen Zoid under the hash tag “sharkattack” on Twitter.

We only begin to take steps when someone dies and this incident is NO exception to that sad reality. Documentary maker Chris Fischer defended the filming of “Shark Men” on the public platform Facebook but later offered his condolences to the family and friends.
Warnings were sent to the relative authorities about the increased shark activity but they later stated that there was a problem and have said that warnings were issued. Dirk Schmidt, a wildlife photographer said that he had called for a high shark alert to be issued, saying that possible shark-human interaction or even attacks could not be excluded.

This quote has been taken from City of Cape Town’s media releases and statement that they issued to the media. The City of Cape Town said linking the two unrelated activities is uninformed and misleading and they have been conducting interviews with eyewitness to establish what had happened and the theory thus far is that Dolphins were seen chasing fish and that could have been a reason for shark activity within the area.

Caption: A touching tribute from friends, family and surfers alike.
Source: http://campsbay.com/images/gallery/david-lilienfeld/david-lilienfeld-tribute.jpg

Well, an innocent person had to die in order for our City to reconsider warnings and this is truly sad. We need to do something in order to ensure that this does not happen again! We need to be active and ensure that our government creates programmes to prevent these scenarios from occurring and fast!

Rest in peace David Lilienfeld.

It is a poor idea to lie to yourself!

Caption: If you don’t there could be repercussions or consequences.
Source: http://www.tylershields.com/images/art/stop-lying-to-yourself.jpg

Lying to yourself isn’t an excellent idea, because there could be consequences or repercussions as a result of that lie. Whether it is big or small there are always consequences or repercussions for every action. For example, if I eat unhealthily today, let me try and eat healthily tomorrow, let’s hope that would happen. Well, unfortunately depending on your decisions you could either be messing up your future or playing mind tricks with yourself.

Split second choices could also lead to you lying to yourself, for being approached by dodgy looking men. Your immediate reaction would be fear, but your mind plays tricks on you and it might get to a point in where your mind plots things you should and shouldn’t do. But unfortunately there is a 77% chance of you actually getting robbed; your mind would automatically think “What if I walked through this area in a different route or what if I was held up by a few seconds wherever I was previously?”

Caption: A sad reality but these things do happen.
Source: http://mryoungscholar.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/lying-to-yourself.jpg

Therefore, I believe that there could be terrible consequences related to your decisions. Many people tend to tell themselves the following “if I eat this I will lose weight or even if I steal this no-one will know”. Well, in relation to the stealing example: what if you convinced yourself enough to shoplift and you end up getting caught.

I believe that for every lie you tell yourself and tell others there could be repercussions that could lead to much bigger consequences. Start today and be more responsible and don’t lie to yourself or others!

Living in South Africa, is becoming really hard with constant price increases and the cost of living constantly increasing. South African’s have been hit with a triple ouch better known as a triple shocker. This shocker relates to the price increases in Train tickets, automobile (petrol) and the increase in electricity.

On Sunday April 1, 2012 all South African’s were hit with sharp increases, but it doesn’t end there the City of Cape Town has proposed a 15% hike in the price of water and sanitation.

Caption: Are we really aware of what our government is doing with our hard earned wages and tax.
Source:nuevasalamanca.blogspot.com

Where does this leave the consumer, well many ordinary South African’s are suffering, and aren’t able to provide food or water for their families. With these constant increases, where does it leave them?

Will South African’s be able to fork out for these constant increases? I personally think that we are heading or reaching a point in where businesses will not be prepared to offer increases and in turn this will lead to the poor getting poorer and the rich getting richer.

What is your take on this situation?

The importance of a healthy life.

Source: www.misschefrd.com/blog/

In this day and age we have many factors that could prevent us from living a healthy life, such as: stress, hyper tension, money and diseases (sicknesses). But finding the element that could be affecting you is of vital important because if you aren’t living healthy you could be affected by a number of life threatening or chronic diseases such as: coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer.

e-infopages.com/.../

Some of us say: “we only live once”. Would you not like to live healthy and rarely get sick or suffer from flu’s or colds well the answer is living healthy. Mother Nature has given us a lot of natural and healthy foods but we should make the effort and eat healthily.

All of these factors are in our control. According to Howtoliveyounger.com, “It’s too easy to grab something processed that doesn’t spoil, sit at our computer or cell phones, smoking cigarettes to relax.” These activities take a little effort and our cultures supports this lifestyle. In the long run it could be cheap and easy in short term but think about the long term results, small changes can make a big difference.

Go out there and be active (exercise) and lastly, be wise and eat healthily!

Not all who wonder are lost.

Inspiration is extremely hard to find but we as students are constantly looking for someone or something to inspire us. We often refer to those who inspire us as Role models, but the important thing to ask yourself is what form of inspiration are you seeking or could your inspiration be career driven or just living life to make billions (R or $).

source: www.bsg.co.za/web/guest/path_to_ironman_world...

Well, I found someone who has not only inspired me but has inspired many around him. His name is Hein Wagner and he has been born blind but he has achieved many goals that he had set out for himself. Hein is well known for breaking the World Blind Land Speed Record in September 2005. But he has not only stopped their he has participated in a number of events such as: Hong Kong Marathon, New York Marathon, Blind World Cup, Cape to Rio yacht race and many more interesting activities and events. Hein Wagner is the most sought after motivational speaker in South Africa.

source: racelogic.wordpress.com/tag/south-africa/

Everything that he has participated in and achieved in life actually inspires me, in that nothing can be considered as to difficult or demanding. Something that you might not know is Hein Wagner will be flying a Boeing 747 from London to Cape Town in the not too distant future. I have found my inspiration and my role model. It’s time for you to seek your inspiration and I encourage you to find a role model that could motivate you to reach your dreams.

The battle of old vs new

Source: worldofstock.com

You might be asking, what’s the point of this blog post. Well, you might also ask yourself what is a Trojan Horse? Or you might have an idea of what it is. A Trojan Horse is a tale from the Trojan War in where the Greeks finally entered the city of Troy and ended the conflict, they constructed a huge wooden horse, and hid a select force of men inside. The Greeks pretended to sail away, and the Trojans pulled the horse into their city as a victory trophy.

Source: digitaltrends.com

We’ll in the 21st century, we are aware of the name “Trojan Horse” in a completely different way. The form of the 21st century Trojan Horse comes in the form of a computer virus. This Trojan can make copies of themselves, steal information, or harm their host computer systems. The term is derived from the Trojan Horse story in Greek mythology because the first Trojan horse appeared as helpful programs.

Source: northerncomputer.blogspot.com

These Trojans can be extremely annoying, but it could be the work of a hacker trying to access files within your computer. The best bet to combat this virus is to install a working firewall as well as a Good Anti-virus programme.
Does the 21st century Trojan horse live up to its predecessor?

How do you step from the top of a 100-foot pole?

Source: pushbackignorance.blogspot.com

Finding a way to step off this pole would be extremely hard but I feel that Ignorance would be a great start. Ignorance is a value that often not praised. The definition of “Ignorance” is the lack of knowledge, quality or condition of being ignorant.

Source: puzzle.about.com

The above crossword puzzle formed part of a presentation, in where I was challenged to create a blog explaining it. Well, it is extremely easy to point out the elements which are related to the term “Ignorance”. A few words such as: Hag, You don’t know jack, Able are a few words taken off the puzzle which is related to Ignorance.

There are many others that might make you think, how does these words link with Ignorance? Well, if you are to research these words or names they actually are people or things that could be considered as ignorant as a result of one sidedness.

Are you able to spot a few words? If so name them within the comment section of this post. Enjoy!!!!!!

The unwinding road

Source: www.reality.co.za/.../

Some might think that you crazy, insane or deluded. When you tell them you will be participating in any athletic events. Well I have done my fair share of athletic events and I have observed along the way that many people think that you are crazy or insane to do something like that. Well, my advice to you is. You can do absolutely anything that you out your mind to!

Source: cycletour.bicycling.co.za/articles/cycle-tour...

A few weeks ago I competed in the largest timed cycle tour in South Africa, the Pick ‘n Pay Cape Argus Cycle Tour and with that came months of intense training sessions. On my first training session, I was about to throw in the towel but with motivation and friends they continued to assist me. We covered an estimated 600 kilometers during our training sessions, some might think that we are insane. But if you are to ask any cyclist those are the usual amount of kilometers covered by a training team or individual.

source: www.bicycling.co.za/articles/argus-cycle-tour...

Three weeks before the cycle tour, we were approached by three women who asked if we would raise funds for abused women and children. We accepted the request and immediately contacted potential sponsors or funders and on the day of the tour we as a team managed to raise R50 000.

We are what we do.

While formulating my ideas about this topic an idea popped into by head, pertaining to “It can't happen to me”. These are words we should avoid saying, because things could happen in split seconds. I said those words, a few years ago and my life had changed considerably.

Myself and a few friends were discussing this statement, I was silly and stated. Yes, nothing can happen to us. Little did we know that something would happen?

Nobody would like something like this to happen, but it does unfortunately.
Source:www.carinsurancecomparison.com/.../

We set out to visit what was then the new Century City and on our way there, the unthinkable happened and we were involved in an accident. That day I’d never forget, everyone in the car died and I was the only survivor. Not a day passes that I wish could overturn that statement and therefore I would say, Think before you speak because anything can happen.

We as individuals take it for granted but we should not. I feel that we should live every minute of every day as our last and this will not only make our life better but it would increase our productivity and efficiency.

Its super hero time!

These are superheroes we were accustom to. (Picture obtaned from: ntuwscd.blogspot.com)

Have you ever wanted to be a superhero? Well, I have thought about it and I can’t actually come to a conclusion as to who I’d like to be. If combinations were possible I’d be: Hulk, Superman, Spiderman and Wolverine. These were my favourite cartoons in the good old days. Something that I recently realized was that most of these superheroes are in fact the same with just slightly different looks.

If you were mysteriously kidnapped and transplanted with a characteristic of your favourite superhero what would your super powers be?

A little superhero in the making (Picture obtained from: superherorun.wordpress.com)

Once you have decided what powers you now want. You will have the task of picking your costume if you want to be a respected and reminded superhero, you need a truly eye-catching costume. The costume you would be making should include eye-catching colours and unparallel designs. You will not be a superhero without a great costume, like Tarzan.

A friendly superhero in the neighbourhood. Picture obtained from: bagelofeverything.wordpress.com)

Imagine yourself jumping or flying from one building to another in Cape Town wearing nothing. It wouldn't be a great sight for anyone walking in the streets, don't you think?

We are afraid of the wrong thing!

(Picture obtained from: rottentomatoes.com)

We are always afraid of the wrong thing, but think about being awake during an intense surgery. It’s a really scary thought but in our ideal world something like this rarely happens, but don’t hide behind the covers. These types of occurrences do in fact happen. According to Dictionary.com “the term/word “awake” means to rouse or emerge from sleep.”

(Picture obtained from: intotheblu.com)

In 2007, a movie directed by Joby Harold named Awake was free for public view and the premise of this movie was when Capital-investment firms’ chief falls in love with a women. He then suffers from a heart condition in where his good friend suggests a heart transplant. He runs off and gets married to the women of his dreams. He goes to hospital for surgery and during the surgery he encounters “anaesthetic awareness” in where he is awake but paralyzed. While in the state of pain he uncovers a murder plot against him.

(Picture obtained from: mediafirebd.com)

Anaesthesia awareness occurs in 20 000-40 000 patients and out of the 20 million United States of America surgeries performed each year. These statistics illustrate the awareness in the United States of America. Did you know: In South Africa, 1 in every 8 people would suffer from this situation? I would advise you to speak to your Anaesthesiologist before any surgery is conducted. Rather be safe than sorry! What do you think?

The Awkward Silence!

(Picture obtained from: whatsstevedoing.blogspot.com)

Have you ever had that moment, in where you did not know what to say next. Well, I’ll now assist you in overcoming this awkward feeling. Awkward silence is an uncomfortable pause in a conversation. This could be associated with unpleasantness, anxiety or the pressure to speak about something that you are unsure about.

(Picture was obtained from: forums.toucharcade.com)

In our day and age, some of us may have experienced this, a number of times already. How did you manage to bridge that gap? Where you able to overcome that feeling? Well, it is very easy to break the awkward silence feeling by saying something completely random....... like..........I wish I had fish.... or at least something to make people laugh. We randomly stare at our phones to avoid an awkward situation or even when a awkward situation arises.

If you have had that feeling before and you have to say something to break the silence what would it be? Most of the time it’s something completely strange or obscene that would create laughter and the awkwardness would now dissipate. What’s your favourite one to use?

Fish falling from the sky.

(Picture obtained from: norbyela.blogspot.com)

We all wish something that something strange of this nature could occur because it would be a pretty amazing sight, but for a certain group within the Western Cape, this is something they pray for on a day-to-day basis as a result of the new fishing regulations passed by the South African government which now gives Multi-National corporations the ability to catch as many fish as possible and the local fisherman have to abide by a quota supplied to them by the South African government.

(Picture obtained from: copycateffect.blogspot.com)

This is a sad reality but it comes to the point in where these individuals either find other jobs but jobs is another issue that needs to be addressed. Did you know: A fishermen in South Africa may only catch a maximum of 500 a day, whereas Multi-National corporations are able to catch 3000 – 5000 a day. How do you feel about this? I most certainly feel something needs to be done about this because in the end our resources will be depleted completely and we as the South African public will have no benefit.

Ask yourself this question: Are you a Bengal tiger or a Pink Panther?

Human Mind Power.

(Picture obtained from: life-changing-mind-power.com)

The human mind is a very complex muscle which we use every second of every day. Without any doubt you would have questioned or even heard about anything related to Human Mind Power, well let me ask you this.....would you take that information plainly without any thought? The mind is a very interesting muscle, whether you are consciously aware or not you are indeed using your mind power, every second of every minute of every day, you are actually using your mind right now to read this post.

According to Happiness and Abundance, “Human mind power is unlimited in its potential to create the results you desire, WHATEVER they might be. There are no limits with the expectation of limits you place on yourself”.

Well, you can now test your brain power right here, right now! This is an exercise obtained from Resources for Science Learning.

(Picture has been obtained from: sionmindpowertruth.com)

Switch the hand you are using to control the computer mouse. Use the hand you normally do NOT use. It may seem awkward at first but your brain is learning a new skill right now. What do you now notice? Is it harder to be precise and accurate with your motions?

Well, try other neural building exercises with your everyday movements. Another few exercises you could try are: Using the opposite hand to brush your teeth, dialling the phone or even operating a television remote. Try it!

What is the colour of the wind?

(Picture has been obtained from: alisonlyons.blogspot.com)

The colour of the wind can be described in a number of ways, but I will now focus at the consequences of Illegal Street racing within the confines of South Africa. Illegal Street racing is a pressing issue in South Africa and has been a problem for more than 10 years. The wind moves at a high rate of speed and this would then relate to the illegal street racers moving at a high rate of speed.

(Picture obtained from: www.shuttershock.com)

Illegal Street racing has been a problem for not only ordinary road users, or neighbourhoods but for the City Traffic Services. For the past 10 years, over 1000 accidents and 900 deaths were reported as a result of these illegal activities and therefore the Cities Traffic Services established a dedicated team to tackle this problem.

(Picture has been obtained from: blogs.discovermagazine.com)

According to City Traffic Service, “Participating in Illegal Street racing is not endorsed by the MEC will result in a fine of R1500”. This demonstrates the firm stance taken by the City of Cape Town to prevent this illegal practice.

If you personally witness or see any illegal racing, don’t hesitate to contact: The Cities emergency number at 107.

Instant adrenalin boost.

(Picture obtained from: http://xboxmedia.ign.com/xbox/image/article/511/511038/street-racing-syndicate-200405030519297_640w.jpg)

Have you ever had that feeling of racing the person next to you to the robots? Well, I have and I decided against it! Being responsible is my main focus point, but being a motorsport junky, I actually love the sight of modified cars. Men naturally have had that thought, or at least attempted to race or even speed.

Well in South Africa illegal street racing has become a growing trend. If you aren’t aware of what street racing or illegal street racing is, I’ll be giving you a crash course into it. Street racing or illegal street racing is an unsanctioned event which takes place on ‘temporary erected circuits’, better known as the public roads. The competitors usually monitor police radios and scanners, with the attempt to establish whether the area is safe to race. Once they get the go ahead from the radio monitors the actual race begins.

(Pictured obtained from: www.livesockets.com/.../ots0002/streetracing.jpg)

According to Paul Reily, “street racers find a thrill in breaking rules. They are also known as illegal street racers of the night, in where men and women risk their lives and limbs to race their cars illegally.”

I went behind the scenes to chat with a Street racer and got his opinion on illegal racing. Anonymous said, “You’re not bound by any rules, you can race who you want, when you want and how you want. But the other driver has to agree. I’ve been racing for six years of my life and I will continue. Feeling that thrill of police chasing you is so amazing.”

(Picture obtained from: www.jpost.com/.../ShowImage.ashx?ID=181753)

Well, if many street racers have this opinion could it ever be stopped? Most importantly would you ever consider racing illegally?

If I were the boss.

Imagine if some walked up to you, offering you there entire estate including: houses, cars, businesses, investments etc. That would be pretty amazing wouldn’t it! Well, think about it. What would you do in this situation? I’d first question him and find out why he had chosen me, and I’d then accept the offer. If that would ever happen I’d grab the opportunity and READ the fine print, because there could be consequences related to this.

(Picture obatined from: www.bizjap.com/.../06/millions-of-dollars.jpg)

Think about it he could be the owner of a huge company in South Africa and if so you’d most likely be the new boss. The opportunities that you could have with this individual’s estate / assets could be endless. You could even be your own boss, that would be amazing, but it could also have its downfall. Having that ability or control would assist me in moulding the company or his business. We all had that dream in life to be a boss somewhere or the other, but unfortunately that had not materialised as yet, but it would dawn upon us soon!

(Picture obtained from: www.workitmom.com/bloggers/workitmom/files/20...)

Where I am right now, I really wish this could be the case in terms of becoming a true business professional. While reading this piece, have you thought about what you would do?

Easy Money.

According to Investopedia, “Easy Money is defined as money that has easily been acquired.” Well this easily links with the South African daily life. Everyone’s dream is to become a millionaire or billionaire but this can only be done if the correct procedures are followed such as: working or providing a service in order to obtain this “money”.

My definition of Easy Money is crime, crime and more crime. People in this day and age look for any excuse or any attempt to obtain money and in this process, doing anything and everything in order to get that “money”. Well in South Africa and in the rest of the world money is a status symbol and many South African don’t have access to money and therefore they resort to all kinds of crimes.

Crimes such as: ATM Bombings, Minting and Printing of the South African currency, stealing copper cabling and wires, buying and selling drugs and stealing vehicles. The destruction of other people’s, lives in order to make their’s a bit better. These criminals should think about the bigger picture because there destruction leads to more money being spent and inconveniences to other. Easy money gets you nowhere!

(Pictures used have been obtained from: http://advisetoall.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/How-to-Detect-Counterfeit-Money.jpg and Junaid Samodien)

Two People walk out of a building into a story.

The world we are living in is more money focussed and money orientated than we ever thought possible a few years ago. An Anonymous writer once said, “Money is the route to all evil”.

A few days following the plot of cash allocations at the Five Pillars of Hell in the Western Cape, Life Boy and Great Tender where set to leave the Five Pillars of Hell, when they notice that the entire country has become cash hungry zombies. They witnessed a prominent business man being stripped of his clothes and essentials and leaving him defenceless.

Great Tender and Life Boy retreated into the Five Pillars of Hell in where they made the joint decision to buy an aircraft to fly them away from this craziness. They decided on using R9 billion, not only for buying an aircraft but to secure a home and investments in Hawaii. Within 24 hours they get ready to leave for Hawaii.

While on the aircraft Life Boy tells Great Tender that they were the main contributors to this situation. He then asks Great Tender, WHAT HAVE WE DONE?
